To me, something can not be called art unless it really gives you something to think about. It has to be more than a painting, a sculpture, or a photograph; it has to be an experience. Nathan Lavertue’s art goes to that level and beyond. It’s impossible to just glance at a piece of his work and forget it. You find yourself mentally gripped by each image and responding to how it affects you. Pieces such as “Catharsis,†with a skull as the central figure, play on your interpretations by using conflicting titles and images, which makes his work even more intriguing.
